TIME FOR PEOPLE TO CHOOSE THEIR VOICES ON DONEGAL COUNTY COUNCIL

first_imgAfter weeks of knocking on doors and putting up election posters, today is D-day for candidates in the local and European elections.Donegal voters go to the polls today.A total of 83 candidates are fighting for just 37 seats on Donegal County Council.Polling stations open for the early birds at 7am while the many undecided voters have until 10pm to make up their mind and cast their ballots. A recent opinion poll by the Tirconail Tribune newspaper suggested there has been a surge in support for many Independent candidates. Both Fine Gael and Labour are expecting a little kickback against the Government but many say they will vote personality over party today. The sorting of the votes at Donegal’s five count centres in Letterkenny, Stranorlar, Buncrana, Glenties and Donegal Town will take place on Saturday.Tallies will be taken then but the actual counting of votes will not start across Donegal until Sunday morning. A total of 753 people were entitled to vote on Donegal’s five islands yesterday.Donegal’s islands usually vote two or three days before the mainland. But yesterday’s voting was part of a trial to bring voting closing to the same time as the rest of the country.  TIME FOR PEOPLE TO CHOOSE THEIR VOICES ON DONEGAL COUNTY COUNCIL was last modified: May 23rd, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:ballotdonegalDonegal County Councilpollstalliesvoterslast_img read more
